Yard Sale for Vendors

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007
All - Our good friends at Christ Our Shepherd Church (COSC) are holding a Yard sale this Saturday, June 2 from 9am to noon. They are raising money for the Eastern Market vendors.

COSC is inviting members of the community who would like to donate items for the sale to drop them off at COSC through Friday. If you have things around your home that are taking up precious space please drop them off at COSC. You can also drop by Saturday to see what they have for sale.

Next EMCAC Meeting May 23.

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

The Meeting will take place at 7:00 PM at the Rumsey Aquatic Center, 635 North Carolina Ave. SE, Washington, DC, right next to Eastern Market.

The agenda includes opportunity for any member of the community to express concerns. Comments on this blog will be part of the community input.

Some key questions are likely to be discussed.
1) Temporary Market Location: At the special meeting on May 9, EMCAC
recommended that the temporary structure be located on the site of the
playground of Hine Jr. High.  This was in keeping with the general consensus
of the well attended open meeting on May 7 in the Hine auditorium.2) Temporary structure design:  There have been three types of structure
under consideration.  EMCAC has not made any recommendations, although
unanimously passed a resolution advising the city that it should choose from
among the alternative structure types the one that can best be tailored to
meet merchant needs, provide the necessary infrastructure to support the
businesses in it, and that can be erected  quickly. Further EMCAC advises
that the structure design should minimize negative impact on neighbors and
provide some continuity of design and flow with the existing market building
and activities.

3)    Details of how to make the temporary location consistent with the
continued vibrancy of the weekend flea market.

4)    Updated status of the condition of the market, now that there has been a
closer examination of the support structure.”
