Music Series Comes to Eastern Market

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Stolen from our friends at DCist.com

As a symbol of Eastern Market’s recovery from the fire that destroyed its main building in April, the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, which established the Eastern Market Fund to aid in the restoration process, is sponsoring a concert series that will begin on July 22.
The Eastern Market Music series will present Washington area blues, bluegrass, jazz, contemporary, and international musicians. The shows will run on Sundays through the end of September and will take place at the corner of 7th & North Carolina, S.E., outside of Port City Java.
The opening concert is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday with traditional blues musicians Rick Franklin and Michael Baytop. The Resonators, an acoustic roots ensemble, will complete the bill. A full schedule of the Eastern Market Music series, including performers, dates and times is now available on the Capitol Hill Community Foundation web site.

Federal Earmarks for Eastern Market

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Through the efforts of Eleanor Holmes Norton, $131,000 in federal money has been earmarked for Financial services and General Government Approriation Bill. (HR 2829.) The earmark is referred to in the committee report, 110-207, rather than the bill itself. The Senate Committee on Appropriations passed the bill this week, although it is not clear from their press release whether the earmark remains in the language.
